Anti-Ragging InitiativeThe Government of India and the University Grants Commission (UGC) have taken significant measures to prevent, prohibit and eliminate ragging in all forms from higher educational institutions across the country. Ragging is strictly prohibited within educational institutions, including classrooms, hostels, playgrounds, transportation facilities and other places associated with student activities.The UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions require institutions to take appropriate measures to ensure a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment for every student. The regulations provide for prevention, monitoring and strict action against individuals found involved in or abetting any act of ragging.Ragging can include physical or psychological harassment, intimidation, humiliation, verbal abuse, acts causing embarrassment or fear, disruption of academic activities, financial exploitation and other behaviour that adversely affects the dignity, well-being or confidence of a student. Educational institutions are expected to maintain zero tolerance towards such activities.The Government-supported Anti-Ragging Initiative provides students with facilities for submitting anti-ragging undertakings, accessing information and reporting incidents or complaints. Students can also seek assistance through the national Anti-Ragging Helpline, which operates round the clock. The UGC currently lists the toll-free Anti-Ragging Helpline as 1800-180-5522

Appropriate action will be taken against anyone found involved in ragging or abetting such activities, in accordance with applicable rules and regulations.
